Conference overview:

Toronto ALPHA with the support of the Toronto Catholic District School Board is excited to offer History meets Humanity, a 1 day conference for TCDSB students and their teachers to connect learning the history of WWII in Asia with understanding humanity through engaging with educators, peace activists, survivors, and community leaders. 

History meets Humanity is designed for grades 10-12 classes studying courses in Social Studies, Humanities and Religion.

Conference highlights:

  • Hear from Joy Kogawa, a Japanese Canadian author and activist who is is recognized for her award-winning novels and children’s literature
  • Experience a testimonial directly from George McDonnell, Canadian Veteran and Prisoner-of-War captured by the Japanese Imperial Army in Hong Kong 
  • Guided viewing of the award winning docudrama “Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking” 
  • Presentations by inspiring youth and community leaders
  • A free catered lunch will be provided for all participants

Conference details:

  • Date – Wednesday May 15, 2013
  • Time – 9:00am – 3:00pm (registration from 8:00am – 9:00am)       
  • Venue –  Don Bosco Secondary School, 2 St. Andrews Blvd, Toronto, ON

Occasional teacher coverage provided by TCDSB if necessary, details regarding this will be sent following registration.
